Application Advice

Admission Officers get inundated with applications from November through to the deadline date!

It is best to send off your UCAS application form as early as possible, i.e. September/October. The later you leave it, the more competition there will be for course places. Get in first!

That said, take the time to enjoy the process, it’s a great experience choosing university and one that is quite straightforward. Once you have narrowed down a list of universities, you should take the opportunity to visit them on an open day.

It's important to get a feel for the place where you’ll be spending the next three to four years, as well as looking around the university itself.

September Start to complete UCAS application form. Make sure you send it in by January 15th. Forms are available at school/college or at the local careers/connexions centre. UCAS are encouraging more students to apply on the web.20th September is the last date for clearing applications.
October

You need to be completing your UCAS application form - deadline 15th January.

If you are applying to Oxford/Cambridge or for medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine/science the deadline for sending in your application form is 15th October.

November/December Stop putting it off! Complete your UCAS application form now - deadline 15th January.
January If you do not get your application form in by 15th January, it will be late and will be considered only for courses that still have places available.
February

You can still apply through UCAS but the application is now officially late and will only be considered for courses that have places available.

Art and design route B applications need to be in between 1st January and 24th March.

March

You need to have your art and design route B application in by 24th March. UCAS recommend that it's send in by the 9th March to avoid the last minute rush.

Start to research courses that you are considering applying for next year.

Information will be available in the careers library at school/college or visit the local careers/connexions centre.

April

You can check on the progress of your application form through the UCAS website.

By the end of April, once you have received all your replies, you must reduce your choice of university from six to two.

You then need to decide on a first and second choice of university - these are known as 'firm' and 'insurance' offers.

You should start to visit the universities you are particularly interested in applying to. You can do this through your open days. There will be other events taking place that you should investigate through the university website.

June

If you have applied late for art and design route B, 12th June is the last date UCAS will receive applications before you have to go through clearing.

30th June is the last date that UCAS will accept general applications before you have to go through clearing.

July You should do some research over the summer, so that you are well prepared and ready to complete your UCAS application form when you return to school /college in September.
August A level exam results are published. You will receive confirmation of your place at university if you meet the entry requirements. If not you can go through clearing or consider the alternatives, eg re-sits, employment, modern apprenticeship.
